The sea is everywhere. It comes before the gaze, lining our lives long before we think to contemplate it. It feeds, it separates, it connects, and sometimes it threatens. This ongoing photographic project seeks to make that omnipresence visible.
I photograph the sea the way one returns to something one cannot shake off. It is an obsession, and I embrace it openly: the need to go back to the water's edge, onto the water or into it, to observe, to begin again. Each image is a way of drawing a little closer to this element, which captures me as much as I try to capture it.
The sea is like a painting one would never stop painting, so vast is it, so endless the gazes its horizon holds. Here, in this work in progress, layers of images keep accumulating as time slips by.
